Welcome to AfterSKOOLWorld, an initiative which attempts to scout and map out all the great learning opportunities for children beyond the confines of traditional academic curricula and promote the knowledge concept of “entrepreneurship” to fellow parents and our next generation.

I am a millennial father who has worked in the world of investment banking and technology start-ups. Growing up, I studied in Hong Kong and later pursued my education in California at the age of fifteen. 

Through my own academic and career journey, I became aware of the fundamental flaws in many traditional education systems around the world as they are not designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their post-school lives. However, it was not until 2023 when my son was born that I felt a strong impetus to take action for the sake of his child development. 

Thanks to remarkable technological advancements, our world is evolving at an unprecedented pace – so fast that the traditional school systems struggle to keep up with the most up-to-date and relevant knowledge needed to empower our children. By the time my son enters university, the conventional college degree might no longer hold the same significance it once did.

As much as I would like my son to enjoy his schooling experience, relying solely on the default academic curriculum and learning pace will not adequately prepare him for success in adulthood.

So how can we ensure that our children have the best possible outcomes when they step into the post-school world? Where can we discover the finest options for them to learn and explore beyond the traditional school system? How can we, as parents, provide them with the guidance they need to thrive?

As I reflect on my past education and fourteen years of experience working in five companies, I realize that what we need today is developing skills and mindsets that are associated with the idea of “entrepreneurship” – something that is not covered in the classroom. 

Entrepreneurs require multidisciplinary thinking and skills, including a combination of problem-solving abilities, decision-making, creativity, communication, psychology, mathematics, understanding of technology, and more. Raising our kids with entrepreneurial skills and awareness will better prepare them to navigate their lives regardless of whether they will start a business down the road. 

Searching for my son’s best learning options and equipping him with entrepreneurial skills compelled me to conceive the idea of AfterSKOOLWorld. I firmly believe there are superior approaches to nurture our children’s growth, and there are exceptional places and educators who can help the next generation learn faster, better, and unlock their true potential. We just need to discover them.

I’m thrilled to kickstart this project in my hometown of Hong Kong, with aspirations to expand into other cities around the world.
